Hayman Island Guide โ Blue Pearl Bay & the Quiet North
Hayman Island โ Blue Pearl Bay and the Quiet NorthThe northern Whitsundays' postcard stop: a postcard beach with reef at your tender's bow, and the passage's best sunset anchorage nearby.
Three Reasons Crews Stop
The northernmost of the main islands rewards the extra few miles with the trip's most photogenic bay.
Blue Pearl Bay snorkelling
Fringing reef starts at the beach edge: coral gardens, turtles and clouds of fish in water clear enough to read the sand from the boat.
A true postcard beach
The bay's crescent of white sand backed by rainforest โ the Whitsundays as the brochures promise.
North-side sunsets
The northern bays face the setting sun โ the evening light here is the trip's best.

Hayman, briefly
Hayman (part of the Whitsunday Islands group's northern cluster) sits at the top of the passage, and its western bays face the famous sunsets. Blue Pearl Bay is the drawcard: reef, sand and turtles in one crescent. It slots as Day 5 of the classic circuit, between Hook Island and Hamilton Island. Nearby Stonehaven Bay is the flotilla-favourite sunset spot. Timing your trip: best time to sail.
Your Questions, Answered
Where do we anchor at Hayman Island?
Blue Pearl Bay has public moorings off the beach. In northerlies, shift to the southern bays or Stonehaven.
Is the snorkelling as good as Hook Island?
Different flavour: Blue Pearl's reef is right at the beach and very accessible; Hook's bays have more extensive coral. Do both.
Can we go ashore at Hayman?
The beaches are national park โ land freely. The old resort area has had closures, so don't count on facilities.
What's Stonehaven Bay?
The bay just south of Hayman: a popular sunset anchorage where crews raft socially at dusk. Exposed overnight in northerlies.
Is Blue Pearl Bay crowded?
Day boats visit midday; by late afternoon it thins. Overnight moorings are first-come โ arrive by mid-afternoon in July.
Does it fit a 5-day route?
Comfortably โ it's a natural stop between Hook Island and Hamilton Island on any northern-hitting route.
