The Rhythm

One Icon Per Day

Three days can't do everything — so it does the essentials properly.

1️⃣

Day 1 — Learn the boat

The 15nm crossing to Cid Harbour is the shakedown: open water, protected arrival, first anchoring lesson. Afternoon walk to Seekuhm Point.

2️⃣

Day 2 — The beach

Whitehaven by lunch. Swim, walk the southern beach, and stay past 4pm when the day boats leave. Sunset here is the trip's peak.

3️⃣

Day 3 — The lookout + home

Early dinghy to Tongue Bay, Hill Inlet lookout within two hours of low tide, then the 18nm run back to Airlie by late afternoon.

Is 3 Days Enough?

It's enough to fall in love — most 3-day crews book their 7-day return before they've even refuelled.

Practical Notes

  • Check-in timing — Bareboat check-in is 8–10am — arrive Airlie the night before
  • Tide watch — Plan Day 3 around the Hill Inlet low tide the night before
  • Provision light — Two nights aboard: an easy shop or a small delivery order
  • Fuel before home — Refuel at Coral Sea or Abell Point on return
  • Weather plan B — If SE winds are strong, run Day 1 to Nara Inlet instead of Cid
  • Flights late Day 3 — Doable but tight — 5pm+ departures are safer

Who this route suits

Long-weekend crews, first-time charterers wanting a low-stakes shakedown, and anyone pairing the Whitsundays with Airlie Beach time. If you can stretch to five days, the 5-day highlights adds Hook Island's reef without rushing — and the 7-day classic remains the benchmark. Pricing: cost guide.

Technically, but it turns the trip into a delivery run. Three days is better spent at Whitehaven and Hill Inlet.

What does a 3-day charter cost?

Three days of the daily rates in our cost guide: roughly $2,100–$7,500 for the boat by season, plus provisioning and fuel.

Where do we sleep the first night?

Cid Harbour — the most protected all-weather anchorage in the group, and a gentle first night.
